As I'm sure you're all aware, in the last blog entry I created, I mentioned my plans to re-master the 4th novella, host my 3rd novel giveaway, and finally unleash the long-overdue conclusion to the Sky Fighters original series. However, this is not all I have to say.
To begin with, Sky Fighters Part IV: Deadly Encounters has at last been remastered! Not 100% or nearly so, as was the case with Sky Fighters Parts I, II, and III. But even still, in addition to being run through two different spelling and grammar checkers like a precision combing-job, here are the most notable changes to the 4th novella...
The descriptions as well as the names of certain characters have been changed in order to make them feel more original and less one-dimensional. This is a response to readers claiming my characters were "hollow", among similar terms used in describing them.
Along with this, the actions, powers, and speech patterns of many characters has been improved in order to give each of them a personality and experience unique to who they are. The most notable change being an upgrade of the 19th Sky Queen's capabilities: Now, as you read your way through the storyline, you'll find her first battle-scene has been slightly increased by introducing a new ability she gained, perhaps a couple months before 2004...! This newfound ability of hers will shape all the characters as a whole. Of course, the Sky Fighters will be the ones most influenced by her.
A number of potential character-knowledge and continuity issues have also been addressed in this novella. Most notably, up until this part, Sky Fighters did not have much to say, if anything! This was changed all the way back in the 1st novella in response to one of my reviewers being dissatisfied with the Sky Fighters' apparent lack of intelligence and an ability to speak their minds freely. In one chapter of Deadly Encounters, two Sky Fighters previously demonstrate an ability to speak, much to the shock of Gregoroth.
Now instead of using common English, the two Sky Fighters demonstrate a newfound ability to speak in Silosolish! His reaction to this, as well as the response from those he knows well have now been changed in order to reflect on their prior knowledge of the superior aliens' native language, which was only revealed to be Silosolish in Sky Fighters Part III: Champions of Evensongland.
Of course, this book wasn't able to be given a full re-mastery; doing so would have likely driven the word count beyond 40,000. And then, it wouldn't qualify to be known as a novella, anymore. As a result, its production price may have been risen by KDP.
Also present in the 4th novella is the formal introduction of the Needle Staff! This weapon is also present in a virtual world simulation "sandbox" which is called Second Life! A side-by-side comparison shows the difference between the two versions of this Needle Staff, one of which includes my original drawing of it:
...As you can likely see from above, the Needle Staff on the left side is from Second Life. It has a slightly different shape, due perhaps to the restrictions of creating primitive (Prim) objects within the "game" of Second Life. I can't be sure. What I can tell you is the fact which the Second Life Needle Staff is 3-dimensional and can actually be wielded and "used" like it is in the series! Now, if I can just convince the blacksmith guy I met at gymnastics-Named Ari Vitor-to create a real world version of the Needle Staff, it will be showcased as a video in this blog once it has been completed.
The last piece of news concerns the previously mentioned 3rd giveaway. This will begin on the 1st of next month (March, 2023) and conclude on or just before the end of March. At this time, 50 copies of the 2nd novella, Redemption of the Rebels will be free to claim!
